Friday, February 2nd, 1968 - The U.S. Department of Labor raises the minimum hourly wage to $1.60 per hour.

 

Saturday, February 3rd, 1968 - At Abbey Road Studio in London the Beatles record "Lady Madonna", which will be released in the U.S. as a single on March 18th.

 

Sunday, February 4th, 1968 - Neal Cassady, an icon of the Beat Generation and the inspiration for Jack Kerouac's character Dean Moriarty in the novel "On the Road", dies of hypothermia at the age of 41, after passing out while walking intoxicated along a stretch of railroad tracks in Mexico.

 

Monday, February 5th, 1968 - "The Naked Ape", a study of the human animal by zoologist Desmond Morris, is released by McGraw-Hill Publishing.

 

Tuesday, February 6th, 1968 - The 1968 Winter Olympic Games officially open in Grenoble, France, with 1,158 athletes from 37 nations competing in 35 events.

 

Wednesday, February 7th, 1968 - As part of the ongoing "Tet Offensive", North Vietnamese troops capture the U.S. Special Forces camp at Lang Vei, southwest of Khe Sanh.
