Saturday, June 8th, 1968 - On the same day as Robert F. Kennedy's funeral at Arlington National Cemetery, Martin Luther King Jr's presumed assassin James Earl Ray is finally apprehended (following an intensive world-wide manhut) at London's Heathrow Airport.

 

Sunday, June 9th, 1968 - President Lyndon Johnson declares June 9th a national day of mourning for slain presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy.

 

Monday, June 10th, 1968 - U.S. General William Westmoreland announces at a press conference that a military victory in Vietnam is "unlikely".

 

Tuesday, June 11th, 1968 - During an attempted escape, four armed convicts in the Atlanta, Georgia Federal Penitentiary take 25 hostages.

 

Wednesday, June 12th, 1968 - Roman Polanski's horror film "Rosemary's Baby" starring Mia Farrow, John Casavetes, and Ruth Gordon, is released. Ruth Gordon will win an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress" for her performance.

 

Thursday, June 13th, 1968 - Earl Warren (77), Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court since March 1954, submits his resignation to President Johnson.

 

Friday, June 14th, 1968 - Dr. Benjamin Spock and Yale Chaplain William Sloan Coffin are found guilty of conspiracy to abet, aid and counsel violators of the Draft Law, but will be exonerated later at their appeal.
