Friday, November 22nd, 1968 - The Beatles' double album "The Beatles" (more commonly known as 'The White Album') is released by Apple Records.

 

Saturday, November 23rd, 1968 - Tammy Wynette's classic song "Stand By Your Man" reaches #1 on the Country Singles Music Chart.

 

Sunday, November 24th, 1968 - French President Charles de Gaulle, in a radio address, announces he will institue an economic austerity program (including a wage-price freeze and new budget cuts) rather than devalue the franc.

 

Monday, November 25th, 1968 - Pulitzer Prize-winning author and political activist Upton Sinclair (best remembered for his exposé novel "The Jungle") dies in Bound Brook, New Jersey at the age of 90.

 

Tuesday, November 26th, 1968 - The rock group "Cream" gives its final performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. At the end of the show the crowd chants "God Save the Cream".

 

Wednesday, November 27th, 1968 - The first National Women's Liberation Conference is held in Chicago and is attended by numerous feminist organizations from around the country.

 

Thursday, November 28th, 1968 - On Thanksgiving Day Seattle, Washington's first Black Film Festival opens for a four-day run.

 

Friday, November 29th, 1968 - One week after the release of the Beatles' "White Album", John Lennon & Yoko Ono create a firestorm of controversy by releasing their avant-garde colaborative album "Two Virgins" with a cover showing the two in full frontal nudity. On the same day John Lennon is convicted of marijuana possession in a London court and fined £150.

 

Saturday, November 30th, 1968 - The Consolidation Coal Company in northern West Virginia seals its No. 9 mine ten days after an explosion at that mine resulted in the deaths of 78 miners.
